AN E-SCOOTER was seized by police in Frome after reports it was being ridden dangerously.
Avon & Somerset PC Callum seized the scooter after warning the rider, and police have warned owners of the laws regarding the public use of such devices.
“Privately owned e-scooters remain illegal for use on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes in the UK,” a police spokesperson said.
“They are classified as motor vehicles, which means they must be: Registered, insured, compliant with vehicle standards.
“However, it is currently not possible to insure private e-scooters for public use. As a result, riding one in public is a criminal offence and may lead to a fine, penalty points on a driving licence, immediate seizure of the e-scooter.
“Once seized, e-scooters cannot be returned and are subject to destruction, as they cannot be legally insured or operated on public roads.
“Please ride responsibly and stay informed. For now, only rental e-scooters in designated trial areas are legal for public use.”
