DOZENS of speeding tickets were issued and one person arrested during a day of action by police on a busy Somerset route.
Yesterday (Wednesday), officers from the Frome and Shepton Mallet Neighbourhood Policing Team collaborated with the Roads Policing Team for a “focused day of action” along the A361 and surrounding areas.
They were seeking to enforce laws around the Fatal 5 offences – the primary contributory factors causing serious road traffic collisions.
They are; Careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone and speeding.
During the day, a man was arrested for drug driving and a wanted man was picked up for driving without insurance – with the vehicle seized.
Meanwhile, “several” tickets were issued for Fatal 5 offences, with 79 speeding offences identified.
