Arrests made following reports of men shouting Nazi slogans in Wells

TWO men were arrested yesterday afternoon (July 18) after police received reports of two men shouting Nazi slogans and racist and homophobic comments in Cathedral Green in Wells.
Police say that members of the public felt they had to leave the area due to what the police are describing as “abhorrent anti-social behaviour”.
The two men remain in police custody.
Sergeant Simon Lacey from Mendip Neighbourhood Policing Team said: ” Many people may be aware that yesterday afternoon response colleagues were called to Cathedral Green, Wells, by reports of two men shouting Nazi slogans and racist and homophobic comments.
“I’d like to reassure you all that two men were promptly arrested and remain in our cells today.
“I also want to thank the people who called to report this abhorrent anti-social behaviour. I’m proud to be part of this community where people look after one another.
“Some people felt they had to leave the area yesterday because of what was happening. We’ll be patrolling today so please speak to us if you have any concerns.
