A CLIFF climber was taken to hospital after falling from height on the Somerset coast.
The incident, at around 2.30pm on Wednesday (July 9), saw rescue teams sent to Middle Hope, on the north side of Sand Point, near Weston-Super-Mare, to assist with the incident.
A crew from RNLI Weston had located the faller and Weston-Super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team had assessed their condition as the Great Western Air Ambulance landed on the beach.
A spokesperson from the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team – which had been sent to support the action – said: “The casualty was secured in a stretcher and carried to higher ground where a full assessment could be carried out.
“Once assessed, they were transported to a nearby land ambulance for onward travel to hospital for a complete check over.
“The people involved were fully qualified and well equipped but, as we all know, accidents can still happen. Their quick and calm actions enabled help to be called and mobilised rapidly, with everyone knowing where the incident took place. This was due to the caller using What3words, which enables an exact location to be shared very easily. If you are off the beaten track it can be especially useful.”
