HEAVY rain could bring yet more flooding and disruption to travel in Somerset this week.
The Met Office has issued two weather warnings – covering Wednesday (February 18) and Thursday.
From 6am on Wednesday morning, Somerset is covered by a weather warning for rain, with forecasters predicting some disruption to travel and flooding of “a few homes and businesses”.
“Spells of rain, some heavy, will affect southern parts of England during Wednesday and overnight into Thursday, while some snow is also likely over higher ground, chiefly during Wednesday night,” the Met Office said.
They said 10mm to 20mm of rain is “expected quite widely”, with “a few places near the south coast seeing “perhaps as much as 50mm” in areas around Dartmoor.
“Strong east to north-easterly winds will accompany the rain and/or snow, which could exacerbate impacts in places,” they added.
“Large waves could affect some east-facing coasts, especially along the English Channel.”
The warning is in place until 8am on Thursday morning and comes on the back of severe disruption in Somerset following Storm Chandra and further bad weather which saw a major incident has been declared across the county.
