Waterproofs and wellies donated after walkers’ fundraising efforts in Somerset

PUPILS at two Somerset schools will be able to stay dry in wet weather – thanks to the fundraising efforts of coast walkers.

Knights Templar Community Church School in Watchet and St Andrew’s Church of England Junior School, in Burnham-on-Sea, each received 10 sets of waterproofs and wellies from The Outdoor Guide Foundation, funded by the Somerset Trail Partnership of the King Charles III England Coast Path.

The donations came after fundraising throughout 2025 by walkers on the King Charles III England Coast Path, including during April’s Watchet Walking Week, and September’s Somerset Coast Challenge.

These latest donations mean three of Somerset’s coastal schools now benefit from Waterproofs and Wellies donations, with West Huntspill Primary Academy receiving sets last year.

Somerset Trail Partnership representative, Isobel Pring, joined Fiona Payne, organiser of Watchet Walking Week, to present the waterproof sets at Knights Templar Community Church School.

“Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve provided two sets of waterproofs and wellies – 10 pairs each – this year,” said Isobel.

“It’s been fantastic to work with The Outdoor Guide on this initiative and contribute to the goal of providing waterproofs and wellies to every state primary school in the UK.”

Gina Bradbury Fox, from The Outdoor Guide Foundation, added: “Every child deserves the chance to embrace the outdoors, whatever the weather. Thanks to this effort, more children in Somerset now have that opportunity.”
