HOMES in a Somerset town were evacuated as firefighters investigated a “strong smell of gas”.
A Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service crew from Williton was sent to Watchet after residents reported the strong smells at around 9.45am on Wednesday morning (October 16).
“Upon arrival, (the) crew confirmed the strong smell of gas in the area and got to work investigating the area and drains in the vicinity with a gas monitor,” a spokesperson said.
“Crew also got work evacuating near by properties as a safety precaution, after the gas board got in attendance they were then informed that it was safe to re-enter their properties.”
A gas leak was found in a neighbouring property, the spokesperson added, and the incident was handed over to a gas engineer.
