A MINIATURE railway could return to Clevedon – if someone can be found to get the train running.
North Somerset Council (NSC) has launched an advert hoping to find an operator to revive the miniature railway at Salthouse Fields, as well as a food and drink outlet, miniature golf course and a children’s activity area.
In addition to re-opening the railway, the lease for Salthouse Fields would see construction of a new train shed and the ongoing management of the attractions.
Salthouse Fields is popular as a base to start walks into surrounding woodland areas and along the coastal path, as well as access to open water swimming at Clevedon’s marine lake.
A miniature railway first opened in 1952, running in a loop around Salthouse Fields, but has been closed in recent years.
Now, it is hoped it will make a comeback.

Councillor Mike Solomon, NSC cabinet member for culture, leisure and open spaces, said: “I’m pleased to say that North Somerset Council are putting the wheels in motion and hoping to get Clevedon’s miniature railway back on track.
“The miniature railway is part of a great day out for residents and visitors alike and a fantastic draw to the local area, bringing smiles to family’s faces and a boost to our local economy.
“Clevedon residents have told us how popular and important the miniature railway is and this a great example of the council listening to those voices, working with leisure providers and the voluntary and community sectors to ensure we deliver together for the benefit of our residents.”

Went The train line 1st opened up it didn’t used to go round the whole field. It just used to go straight up and down. It was yours later when it started going around the field but I should be happy and glad to see you come back especially for the children.
