Weekend of events at Clarks Village to mark Black History Month

A WEEKEND of family events are planned at Clarks Village in Somerset to mark Black History Month.

The Street outlet shopping centre is hosting the celebration in partnership with the Somerset Multicultural Association.

The free two-day programme will see vibrant live music performances, interactive African drumming and steel pan workshops alongside storytelling, and magic shows, along with a taste of Guyanese and Caribbean cuisine and stalls featuring unique artisan brands and culturally-inspired treasures.

It is the third year the organisations have teamed up for the event, aiming to bring the community together to celebrate the history, heritage and culture of black communities.

A full schedule of festivities will run on Saturday, October 26, from 10am to 5pm and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 27.

Special guests at the event include skilled drummer Arona, Mahalia’s Kitchen and Phi Phi’s Soul Kitchen, and reggae musician Solomon James Browne.

Meanwhile, the incredible Tosin will be performing tricks and illusions, while storytelling shows will be from by Michael de Souza, creator of Rastamouse, and Laura Henry-Allain, the person behind television characters Jo Jo and Gran Gran.

Chris Davis, centre director at Clarks Village, said: “We’ve planned a jam-packed weekend of activities to mark Black History Month which promises fun for all the family, kicking off half term in style.

“While it’s our third annual event, this year’s Black History Month line up is bigger and better and we can’t wait to welcome guests to be part of these special celebrations.”
