ALMOST a year after a devastating fire at the Yeovil Dunelm closed the branch down – work to re-open the store is continuing apace.
In August last year, fire badly damaged the branch, in the Quedam Shopping Centre, largely destroying the roof.
As a result, Dunelm said the store would be closed “for the foreseeable future”.
Now, almost 12 months on, the Quedam has posted an update on the redevelopment – and asked for suggestions on how to mark the re-opening, when it happens.
“We were as sad as anyone about our Dunelm store needing to close after the store fire, however, we’re extremely excited to see the progress being made to bring our beloved Yeovil store back,” a shopping centre spokesperson said.

“You’ve been about to click and collect to the temporary store, located directly opposite, and the team there are eager to get back to their home of homes.
“What have you missed the most? What should we do for a relaunch?”

The fire broke out on the evening of Sunday, August 25 last year, with fire crews from Taunton, Street, Yeovil, Castle Cary, Crewkerne, Martock, Somerton and Wincanton all sent to the scene.
A Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said at the time 30% of the roof was damaged in the blaze, closing the shop’s doors.
