Shepton Mallet caravan park seeks permission to expand

A CARAVAN park in Shepton Mallet has applied for permission to expand.

Bath & West Lodge Park, off the A37 at Cannards Grave, has applied to Somerset Council for permission to install an extra 12 units.

The site was built after planning was granted in 2019, allowing for 25 lodges for use as holiday accommodation.

Now, as part of a “plan for growth”, the operator wants to increase that number to 37.

“The holiday accommodation would be an expansion of the existing rural enterprise, increasing the attraction of the area to tourists and generating economic benefits associated with tourism in the locality,” the application said.

It said the additional units would represent a “relatively minor increase in development” and would “not have any adverse impact on the street scene and surrounding area”.
