A FITNESS business on a Langport farm has applied for retrospective planning permission for a gym area, pool and beauty salon.
The developments have taken place at Thornside, in Wagg Drove, and include the conversion of former agricultural buildings to house the gym space and an indoor pool, used by the Martin family and for personal training.
“Thornside has been home to Robert and Clare Martin since 1994 and more recently, also home to their four children, Ashley, Adele, Erin and Chloe,” the application said.
“Originally purchased as a largely bare site by Robert and Clare, it is their hard work and dedication that has established the productive agricultural unit that exists today.
“With two of their children having left the family farm in recent years to pursue careers elsewhere, Thornside is now occupied by Robert, Clare, Adele and Chloe; with all four family members taking an active role in both the agricultural and diversified operations of the family farming business.”
Since then, the farm has diversified into fitness training and swimming, the plan said.
“From around 2014 onwards, Robert has coached personal training and group fitness sessions at Thornside and was joined in doing so around one year later by his eldest daughter, Adele,” the application added.
“Originally operated on a very small scale, this diversified arm of the business has since grown to provide a labour demand equivalent to that of three full-time employees; offering personal training and group fitness sessions coached by Robert and Adele, swimming lessons coached by Robert and beauty treatments by Chloe.”
