CAR sales firm WeBuyAnyCar.com wants to build a ‘pod’ in a Glastonbury car park to allow people to drop of their vehicles.
Plans have been submitted to Somerset Council by Whittam Cox Architects, on behalf of Morrisons, for a single-storey prefabricated, modular pod in the supermarket car park off Street Road and Oriel Drive.
Pods allow staff a base and a site where customers can complete paperwork when dropping off vehicles.
“Access to the pod is via the existing Morrisons car park access and through the existing retail car park,” the plans said.
“Careful consideration has been placed in the positioning of the pod to ensure that there is no disruption to vehicular and pedestrian circulation and that site will continue to operate as existing.

“The pod is positioned on existing parking bays which will reduce the total parking numbers by two standard car parking bays.
“Existing white lines will be burnt off and the new area will be de-marked to provide safe access into the new pods.”
A total of 10 parking spaces would be reserved for vehicles using the pod, with cars staying on the site for no longer than 72 hours, the applications said.

“WeBuyAnyCar.com have very little impact on a site as they make use of spaces out of the way from where Morrisons customers normally park,” it added.
“The sites are controlled by their national systems, to which all their transport teams have access to and can prioritise collections accordingly.”
Currently, nearby WeBuyAnyCar.com pods include those located in Yeovil and Bridgwater, Taunton, and Frome.
