NEW Post Office services are set to be introduced at a garage near Taunton.
The firm has confirmed a Drop & Collect branch will operate at the Premier Fivehead Service Station, in Fivehead, from 1pm on January 15, in collaboration with Payzone.
“The service will be one of our Drop & Collect branches, which is one of our lighter, flexible branch formats developed to take advantage of the opportunities a vibrant, and increasingly competitive, parcels market offers,” a Post Office spokesperson said.
“The new Drop & Collect at Premier Fivehead Service Station will offer Post Office services from a handheld device, providing convenient access for customers to bill payments and prepaid parcel
collections and returns.”
However, personal and business banking will not be available at the branch, they added, with a wider range of Post Office services available from branches in North Curry and Curry Rivel.
The move was welcomed by MP Sarah Dyke (Lib Dem, Glastonbury & Somerton), who has been campaigning for the introduction of Post Office services in Somerton.
“This is welcome news to start off the year. I will keep advocating to keep vital rural services, including Post Offices, open and operational,” she said. “All best wishes to the new Postmasters in Fivehead.”
The new Fivehead services will be available from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 7am to 1pm on Sundays.
