JUST weeks after completing his apprenticeship, Miles Broughton has been promoted.
The former engineering student discovered a passion for construction while working with his carpenter father – and approached Taunton-based Summerfield Homes about starting an apprenticeship.
The developer took him on, with Miles attending Bridgwater and Taunton College one day a week and spending the remaining days on-site at developments in North Petherton, Watchet and Taunton.
Now, just weeks after finishing his apprenticeship, he has been promoted to assistant site manager for the firm – and recommended the route to others seeking a career in construction.

“This has been a great way to learn, gaining experience while working towards a qualification,” Miles said.
“I enjoy the fact that every day is different and am grateful for the support I have received from my work colleagues.”
Summerfield Group managing director, James Holyday, said: “Miles has shown real commitment throughout his apprenticeship. His promotion to assistant site manager is well deserved and we have confidence in his future with us.”
