Mayor slices the ribbon – not the pizza – to officially open new Domino’s pod in Somerset

THE UK’S first Domino’s ‘pod’ store has opened in Somerset.

Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, cut the ribbon at the new pizza takeaway at Westpark 26 on Monday (November 3).

Domino’s said the new outlet – the first pod-style shop in the UK – will create 25 jobs and be open between 11.30am and 11pm each day.

“The compact, modular format looks and feels like a standard Domino’s for customers, but with a footprint typically 25% smaller,” a spokesperson said.

“Built in just six weeks and weighing around 23 tonnes, the pod offers both collection and delivery, so customers can easily get their pizza and chicken fix at home or while on the move.”

At the opening, more than 100 free pizzas were given out to lucky customers, as well as prizes as part of the store’s Golden Ticket giveaway.

The store will continue opening week celebrations on Saturday (November 8), with a number of promotions on offer.

Beth King, store manager of Domino’s Wellington, said: “We’re thrilled to have opened the UK’s first Domino’s pod here in Wellington. The response has been brilliant, from locals grabbing piping hot pizza to visitors trying the new Chick ’N’ Dip. This format helps us reach new neighbourhoods efficiently, while giving customers the same Domino’s experience they love.”
