PIZZA giant Domino’s is to open its first UK pod store – in Somerset – next week, and is offering 250 free pizzas and other prizes to people who go along to the ribbon-cutting.

The outlet, at Westpark 26 in Wellington, is set to officially open at 11.30am on Monday (November 3), with eager pizza fans urged to get along to snap up a free treat.

Domino’s said the new ‘pod’ format aims to “provide locals and those travelling through Wellington with delicious pizza”, opening from 11.30am to 11pm every day, with collection and delivery available.

The new store is also the first in the region to offer Chick ‘N’ Dip – Domino’s new chicken sub-brand that launched in selected stores in September, including a range of hot and crispy tenders, wings, and boneless bites.

Pod outlets are typically more than 25% smaller than a standard Domino’s store, but is designed to look and feel likes a regular shop. The module weighs around 23 tonnes and was built in six weeks, ready to open.

On opening day, prizes will be shared between some of the first customers at the new pod, while others will have to be on the lookout for Domino’s Golden Tickets, hidden around the retail park on Monday and Saturday (November 3 and 8).

Prizes range from pizza vouchers and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to Coca Cola and Domino’s merchandise, including special pod style headphones.

Graeme Rose, franchise partner of Domino’s, said: “We’re very excited to be launching Domino’s first pod store in Wellington, to deliver the nation’s favourite pizza and now Chick ‘N’ Dip.

“This new format will give those visiting Westpark and living locally the opportunity to try our delicious, piping hot pizza.

“We’re also passionate about enhancing our new community with employment opportunities, where people from Wellington can grow and develop their careers.

“For example, our new store manager Beth King started out as an in-store pizza maker and has worked her way up through the ranks.

“We are currently recruiting drivers ahead of the busy Christmas period.

“So, whether you’re looking for a few extra hours or a completely new career path, there are roles to suit everyone.”

Meanwhile, the pod is also offering 50% off any size pizza on the Domino’s app until Thursday, November 13, and any medium pizza with two toppings for just £8.99 and large for £10.99, collection only.
