(HG) Wells: AI summit comes to Somerset

ARTIFICIAL intelligence (AI) is the subject of the next event from the Wells Business Forum.

The AI Curious summit is aimed at complete beginners or those with a little understanding of the technology’s basics and will run between 10am and 12.30pm on April 11 at the Wells & Mendip Museum.

Organisers aim to demystify AI and equip business leaders with strategies to harness cutting-edge technologies for the future.

The Somerset town shares its name with HG Wells, an English writer best known for his futuristic science fiction works, such as The Time Machine (1895) and The War of the Worlds (1898).

Although his tendency towards the utopia reveals an optimistic ideological core, he was acutely aware of the dangers presented by rapid technological development.

In The Time Machine, he wrote: “I saw great and splendid architecture rising about me, more massive than any buildings of our time, and yet, as it seemed, built of glimmer and mist.”

The AI summit in the city seems to mirror the approach of Wells, aiming to reduce hysteria and share the benefits of AI, while remaining diligent to the possible consequences of unregulated progress.
