BUSINESSES in North Somerset can apply for a free carbon survey to better understand how they can do their bit to boost the environment.
North Somerset Council (NSC) is taking applications from eligible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), sole traders, charities, and Community Interest Companies (CICs) for appraisals carried out in partnership with Future Leap.
The surveys “will help organisations understand their carbon footprint and identify practical steps to reduce energy use and cut costs”, the council said.
NSC said the benefits of a carbon survey include:
- lower energy bills by tackling inefficiencies
- tailored recommendations to reduce emissions
- strengthened eligibility for future sustainability funding
- improved reputation with environmentally conscious customers and clients.
Applications are open now and close on Friday, October 31.

Organisations that meet the eligibility criteria can register their interest by completing a short online form, with successful applicants set to be contacted after the deadline to arrange their survey with Future Leap.
Cllr Annemieke Waite, cabinet member for planning and environment at NSC, said: “We know that many local organisations want to cut their energy bills and play their part in tackling climate change, but it can be hard to know where to start.
“These free carbon surveys are the practical first step to saving money and reducing emissions.”
And Cllr Mark Canniford, cabinet member for sustainable places and service transformation, added: “We want to support our local economy to grow sustainably. These free carbon surveys will identify ways to cut costs, but also play a part in meeting the growing demand for greener practices.”
