Four new units planned at Bridgwater industrial site

THE Bridgwater Gateway industrial site could be set to expand after plans for four new units were submitted.

Plans submitted to Somerset Council by Angus Meek Architects on behalf of Bridgwater Gateway Industrial Ltd, outline the proposed development of around four acres of the 100-acre complex, which includes the Premier Inn, Costa drive-thru, and Lidl supermarket premises, near junction 24 of the M5.

As well as four industrial units “sized for speculative end users so the units could appeal to a range of potential future uses”, the application outlines plans for 102 parking spaces, including 16 EV charging spaces, plus four motorcycle spaces.

The site is accessed by existing points off Compass Avenue.

“The quantity of parking exceeds the minimum requirements of Somerset Parking standards for the building uses,” the plans said.

“Cycle parking is provided internally within all units so spaces are secure and sheltered upon completion.

“Motorcycle parking areas are located within sight of the main site entrance and are over-looked by the glass frontage for passive security purposes.”

‘Stepped accesses’ are included from Carnival Way and Compass Avenue, with planting in parking areas to provide an “attractive setting”, including wildflowers between units.

The units would be built using two cladding panel colours, providing “interest and (to) highlight features of the building”.
