Countdown to Wells Christmas Market begins

THERE are just 11 days until more than 100 stalls will fill the Market Place and Bishop’s Palace Green for the highly anticipated Christmas Market in Wells.

The beloved festive market returns for one big day on Saturday, December 14 from 9am to 3pm providing the perfect opportunity to grab any last-minute unique or handmade gifts or to sample some of the festive food and drink.

The market will be officially opened by the lead member for communities, housing and culture at Somerset Council, councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, and Wells Town Crier, Len Sweales, who will gather beneath the Bishop’s Eye at 11am.

Visitors are reminded that there are limited parking spaces available in the city.

Wells is serviced by many bus routes and the £2 fare cap for any single journey is in place until December 31, making public transport a cheap and stress-free way to get to Wells.

Cllr Smith-Roberts said: “I’m excited to open the Christmas market and welcome everyone to our beautiful city.

“I am proud to support small and local businesses, and the market is a perfect opportunity to shop local this Christmas.

“This season is special for spending time with loved ones, and the market is a magical where we hope the market’s festive spirit creates lasting memories. See you there!”

The event is organised by the Somerset Council’s Mendip Markets team, who invites residents and visitors to join the festivities, enjoy the ‘Christmas in Wells’ magic, and support stall holders at this important trading time.
