TRADERS and water sports businesses are being sought for new premises at Marine lake, in Weston-Super-Mare.
North Somerset Council (NSC) is inviting entrepreneurs and independent operators to apply for a series of spots at the popular site being created during work to revamp the site as part of a £20 million town scheme.
New spaces include an indoor lease space within the Cove, complete with an equipment hire and storage facility available within the building, on the promenade directly above Marine Lake.
It has been created re-using and repurposing the former men’s public toilets to the left of the building.
“Designed with flexibility in mind, the 25m² indoor space could be the ideal space for all different types of businesses,” an NSC spokesperson said.
“New self-contained unisex public toilets with direct access from the promenade, to include one accessible unit, have been created within space that was originally women’s public toilets to the right of the Cove building.”
The RNLI Weston-super-Mare shop and visitor centre will continue to occupy the central section of the Cove building.
Elsewhere, there are two additional mobile trading opportunities.
Alongside the new indoor unit, the council is seeking two mobile traders to operate on the Marine Lake Plaza for 2026 – with lease timeframes available to fit with an operator’s business plan.

“The pitches offer a prominent location with strong footfall and a shared water and power supply,” the spokesperson went on.
“These three lease opportunities offer the chance to be part of one of Weston’s most loved and thriving community spaces.”
Cllr Mike Solomon, Cabinet member responsible for seafronts, added: “Marine Lake is a much-loved destination on Weston’s seafront. These new leases present fantastic business opportunities – spaces to grow, thrive and become part of a really special community space in a truly unique location.
“We’re looking for operators with enthusiasm, creativity and a passion for Weston’s seafront. Whether you’re a water sports specialist, mobile trader or have a unique idea that fits the setting, we’d love to hear from you.
“Creating the new lease space in the Cove building is a key outcome from our Improving Weston programme. I look forward to the work being completed and seeing people benefit from the enhancements we’ve made.
“This will include a repaired and resurfaced lower walkway around the northern area of the lake, repaired, resurfaced and rebuilt steps and ramps, upgrading handrails, improved signage, upgraded public toilets, more cycle racks.
“The list goes on. When the family-friendly venue re-opens, it will be more welcoming, accessible and a safe place for people of all ages to enjoy a range of water-based activities all year round.”
How to apply for the new concessions at Marine Lake in Weston
Businesses interested in any of the three opportunities at marine Lake should register their interest before 5pm on Wednesday, March 25, by emailing concessions@n-somerset.gov.uk.
Applicants will then receive a confirmation email containing application criteria. On-site visits with a seafront team member can be arranged upon request.
Anyone interested in all three opportunities are encouraged to apply, with the council keen to hear from “local and independent businesses looking to bring something unique, active, and community-focused to the area”.
The changes come as Marine Lake is currently closed for construction and refurbishment work.
Contractor, EJ McGrath, started work in October last year, with work set to be completed in May.
