Beauty and homewares brand Rituals applies for signs on Taunton shop

HOME, body and beauty chain Rituals has applied for signs on a Taunton store.

A planning application for new signs at the former Hotter shop premises, in a three-storey building at 11 Fore Street, has been submitted to Somerset Council.

The plans detail new signage for the building, and the replacement shopfront for the new store.

Rituals is billed as an “accessible luxury brand”, selling beauty products and homewares.

The chain currently runs a shop at Clarks Village, in Street, and now looks set to open in the county town.

“The proposals comprise of a new shopfront, signage and internal fitout of the existing retail unit,” the application said.

Features such as a “powdercoated aluminium shopfront, colour black, with brass effect glazing bead detail, double sliding doors”, an “internal shopfit of the ground floor”, “minor works to the upper floors comprising of new fixtures and fittings, new floor finishes and redecoration” are all part of the plans.

Signage will be ‘made good’, along with the installation of new timber mouldings and top cornice.

“The new proposed external fascia signage will be back-lit (halo illumination) comprising of individual antique brass letters, pinned off the existing fascia and an internally illuminated blade sign set within a old brass effect frame,” the application said.

“The proposals comprise the replacement of the current ‘modern shopfront’ with a new shopfront introducing a more ‘traditional’ shopfront concept which would be consistent and in keeping with the Crew Clothing Company shopfront next door (under the same Grade II listing), and as such, would enhance the overall appearance and continuity of the building while maintaining the architectural features of the building on the upper levels.”

Shoe shop Hotter has moved to East Street, in the former JoJo Maman Bebe premises.
