Wychwood Festival: The start of the summer season proper

WYCHWOOD is, for many, the start of the festival season proper.

Getting underway in the last weekend in May, breaking into June, it feels like the real beginning of the summer.

And this year, the event – at Cheltenham Racecourse – boasts a banger of a line-up.

Main stage headliners for 2025 are Shed Seven on Friday night, James on Saturday, and Doves, with the bill staying strong from there on down, including the likes of Public Service Broadcasting, The Zutons, Lottery Winners, Scouting for Girls, Lucy Spraggan, Ibibio Sound Machine and more.

However, away from the main stages, there is a lot going on for all the family – which has seen Wychwood win numerous awards in the family-festival category over the years.

An impressive list of names will be on offer in the Comedy and Children’s Literature tents, as well as activities for all ages.

The Wychwood Comedy Club returns with six hours of daytime stand-up over the festival weekend on the Garden Stage.

Headliners include renowned comedian, actor and writer Bridget Christie, Lost Voice Guy – the first stand-up comedian to use a communication aid – and variety star Steve Royle.

The Children’s Literature tent – named Barbara’s Story Box in loving memory of Barbara Pendrigh, who masterminded the Story Box events for so many years – will feature the likes of Lucy Rowland, Petr Horáček, David Litchfield, Tracey Corderoy and Joanna Nadin across the three days.

From a foodie standpoint, Wychwood also boasts an impressive line-up, with delights set to be served up by the likes of Gloucester’s Melted Cheese Company, Chick ‘n’ Sours, Gamekeeper, Harissa & Lemon, Waffle Wands, Oh Babu, and more – with veggie, vegan and gluten-free options available.

And to burn off those calories, Joe Wicks’ P.E. session will help get people up and active.

All this at Cheltenham Racecourse, home of the Gold Cup, set against the backdrop of the Prestbury Hills.

What more could you want to get your festival season off to a cracking start?
