Somerset schoolboy Tom Page-Turner stars in new BBC Lord of the Flies adaptation

A SOMERSET schoolboy is set to star in a major new BBC drama.

Wellington School pupil Tom Page-Turner features in the upcoming BBC adaptation of Lord of the Flies, which will be available on iPlayer from February 8, with the first episode on BBC One at 9pm that day.

Year 10 student Tom was first spotted more than two years ago, the school said, as part of a nationwide search for talent by casting agent Nina Gold.

“As part of that journey, casting agents visited Wellington School and auditioned 23 of our students, with three later invited to Nina Gold’s London studio,” a Wellington School spokesperson went on.

“At the time this felt like an extraordinary achievement in itself.”

However, this week, Wellington School’s director of drama, Claire Davies, and choreographer Dean Brammall were alongside Tom at the premiere of the first episode of Lord of the Flies, which was shown at the British Film Institute.

Following the preview there was a Q&A with writer Jack Thorne, director Marc Munden and executive producer Joel Wilson, who praised Tom for his skill.

Mrs Davies added: “We are so immensely proud of Tom and everything that he has achieved. We can’t wait to watch the whole series and share the joy of seeing one of our very own students star in such a huge BBC drama.”
