LEGENDARY poet, comedian and songwriter Pam Ayers has joined the campaign to revamp Yeovil’s Octagon Theatre.
The star, who was honoured with an MBE in 2004, has ‘named a seat’ at the venue along with her husband as part of a fundraising campaign which would see the theatre re-opened.
And she said the gesture, which came after a performance at the Westlands Entertainment Venue earlier this month, was a way of thanking audiences and staff for their support over the years.
“I first performed at The Octagon in 1996 and have returned for many happy performances over the years,” she said.
“The friendly welcome back from the audiences and staff have always made it a welcome stop in beautiful Somerset while on tour.
“I am pleased to support the development and reopening of the theatre and wish the project every success and look forward to visiting again when the theatre reopens.”

Yeovil Town Council director of culture and manager of the Octagon, Adam Burgan, said: “Pam has been bringing joy and happiness to our audiences for almost 30 years and it is always a pleasure to experience a packed Octagon Theatre enjoying one of her performances.
“We are so grateful to her and her husband Dudley for supporting the development of The Octagon.
“It is a lovely and generous thing to do and every seat named gets us closer to seeing the Octagon back open.”
