THE Fallen Moon art installation which has been wowing the crowds at Bridgwater Docks has deflated.
Bridgwater Town Council said the exhibit – a giant inflated moon that sat on the water – had been removed after “an unforeseen and highly challenging electrical and technical failure”, which had been worsened by bad weather.
It could mean an early end to the display, a council spokesperson said, which was due to run until November 3.
“Our team is currently investigating the cause of this malfunction and assessing the extent of the damage,” they added.
“This is a technically challenging project with it being the first water-based installation of Luke’s image. We knew technical challenges might occur.”
They said more than 10,000 people had visited the installation since it was unveiled in October 14, and that it had “clearly brought joy and astonishment to so many”.
“However, the safety of our visitors and the integrity of the artwork are of utmost importance to us,” the spokesperson added.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause to those who were planning to visit the Fallen Moon.
“While we will examine other possibilities over the next 48 hours we have to be realistic with the challenges of this installation and it maybe, in its current iteration, the project has come to an end.
“Further updates will be provided as soon as they become available.”
The display – featuring a replica of the Moon 350,000 times smaller than the real thing – was created using NASA data and was illuminated each night.

I booked already a hotel and a train to bridgewater for it. I hope, so hoping all in favour for it to be inflated and be seen again.
Maybe the money saved from maintaining a huge floating football could be donated to helping the pantries feeding people of our town who can’t afford to even have a decent meal.
10k was a figure mentioned … 10k for a ball. Disgusting.
