Artist and designer who has dressed Rihanna and Lady Gaga announces Bridgwater installation

A RENOWNED artist and designer who has dressed the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga is set to unveil a new installation in Bridgwater.

Nathan Slate, whose work spans high fashion and conceptual art, has announced his new interactive installation – What Lingers; A Memory of Nature – which will appear in the town over two coming weekends.

Presented in partnership with SEED Sedgemoor, the ‘immersive experience’ will run from July 24 to 26 and from July 31 to August 2 at the group’s pop-up store in the Angel Place shopping centre.

Nathan’s design studio, SL-ATE, is in Bridgwater – behind Specsavers – with visitors able to enjoy a coffee shop in the curated retail section while watching the artist work on projects on the open mezzanine floor.

His latest installation “imagines a future world where nature no longer exists — only the traces of its memory remain”.

A spokesperson went on: “The space becomes a poetic archive of a lost natural world. What Lingers is not a literal representation of nature, but a dreamlike recollection — fragmented, abstracted, and deeply human.

“Visitors will encounter curated elements that recall the textures and moods of forest, flora, and earth — expressed through, textiles, and ephemeral objects. With a curated scent that is reminiscent of after rainfall.

“The installation invites guests to reflect on what we remember, what we lose, and what continues to haunt us when nature is no longer present.”

Nathan himself said: “What Lingers is about grief, beauty, and the fragments we hold onto when something vital slips away. It’s a love letter and a warning — a space where memory stands in for reality.”

The project is part of SEED Sedgemoor’s commitment to cultivating creative dialogue in Somerset and beyond.

“Known for his work with global fashion houses and collaborations with cultural spaces in Portugal, Slate brings a deeply personal vision to this new local intervention,” a SEED spokesperson added.

Entry to the installation will be free, with all ages welcome.
