HIGH-END jewellery, watches and silverware brought some excitement to a Somerset auction.
The February sale at the Somerset Auction Rooms featured lots including a Faberge enamel egg pendant, an Art Deco platinum and diamond ladies cocktail watch, and a rare George I silver saffron teapot.
The highly-collectable teapots were designed to brew extremely expensive saffron, often exceptionally crafted as they were used by a person of high status.
The one on offer at the sale was a George I silver saffron teapot by Richard Bayley – 11cm tall, with plain ‘bullet’-form body with engraved scroll and trellis decorative band around lid rim, fruit wood scroll handle and knop finial.
Hallmarked London 1722, the teapot sold for £1,200.
