5.1 carat diamond solitaire ring set to shine at Somerset auction

A 5.1 CARAT diamond solitaire ring is set to shine at a Somerset auction next month – the ideal Christmas present for someone.

The Somerset Auction Rooms, at Junction 24, North Petherton, will host a jewellery sale on Thursday, December 4.

And the piece – a family heirloom – is the star of the show, with a guide price of between £20,000 and £25,000.

Deborah Cole, gemmologist, giamond grader and jewellery valuer, said: “In my 28 years of valuing jewellery and gemmoloigcal appraisals, this jewel is one of the top three most exceptional rings I have had the pleasure to view and admire, quite spectacular to look at and rare to find.”

The Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) sale, which starts at 10am, will bring the curtain down on a year of fine auctions and stellar prices at the saleroom.

Mounted in platinum, the rectangular step cut diamond is corner claw set, with a trefoil motif gallery. Held within a fully channel set shank, containing 35 carre star cut diamonds, estimated to total 1.22 carats.

The quality of the central diamond has been assessed in the setting as G-I colour, VS1 clarity and estimated by calculation to be 5.1 carats. Ring size K/L with internal sizing lugs. Complete with a Boodle & Dunthorne, Liverpool, burgundy leather presentation box. Weight 5.3 grams.
