YOUNG footballers in Clevedon will be looking good in new kits, thanks to a £1,000 donation from housebuilder, Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.
The North Somerset-based Swiss Valley Rangers’ under-7s side has been handed the cash from the Portishead-based firm’s Community Champions funding pot.
And the team, founded in 2000, will use the donation to buy new equipment and kits.
Membership at Swiss Valley Rangers has trebled since 2018, with the club fielding teams ranging from under-5s through to Under 18s, as well as male and female adult sides, with a catchment area covering the Gordano Valley, including Portishead and Clevedon.
Manager of the under-7s, Ashley Chapman, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon for supporting our young players through their Community Champions programme.
“This £1,000 donation will make a real difference to our Under Sevens team by helping us purchase new training equipment that will keep our sessions fun, engaging and will help the children develop their skills.
“Grassroots football relies on support like this, so we’re very thankful.”

They are the latest to receive cash from the Community Champions fund, following Portishead FC, Backwell Junior FC Girls, and Weston RFC, with the developer building in Backwell, Weston-super-Mare, and Yatton.
Sales director at Persimmon, Carly Spear, added: “We are delighted to support Swiss Valley Ranger’s Under Sevens side through our Community Champions scheme. Youth sports clubs like this one play a vital role in promoting teamwork, confidence, and community spirit among young people.
“As a company that is based in Portishead and delivering homes in towns and villages across Severn Valley, it’s especially meaningful for us to give back to the local community and help the next generation of young players flourish.”
