Man in his 50s arrested after ‘far right’ and faeces attack on Somerset religious venue

A MAN in his 50s has been arrested in connection with a suspected hate crime at a place of worship in Minehead – including dog faeces being dropped through the letterbox.

Avon & Somerset Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of a religiously-motivated public order offence and criminal damage after the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses had faeces posted, while a vehicle was targeted with “symbols associated with the far right, that leads us to consider there was a hateful intent”.

The incidents occurred between Sunday, February 15, and Wednesday, February 18.

After an appeal for information from officers, police said “other incidents of offensive graffiti in the town” were reported.

“Detectives investigating these offences would continue to ask anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage, to please contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 and give the reference number 5226045306.
