New-look Taunton play park is accessible to all

YOUNG people in a Taunton community now have a new-look – and inclusive – play area, thanks to a National Lottery grant.

Trull Parish Council (TPC) has officially opened the new, inclusive park, at the King George V field, after receiving £3,685 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

It is part of the council’s bid to make sure all recreational spaces are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability.

The Trull King George V play area now features inclusive equipment, including:

  • A New Inclusive Swing: Specifically designed for use by both disabled and non-disabled children, allowing peers to play side-by-side.
  • Accessible Roundabout: A floor-level feature that removes barriers to traditional play.
  • Floor-Level Trampoline: Integrated into the landscape for ease of access.
  • ‘Three Tower Jigsaw’ Junior Climbing Frame: Enhancing the play experience for junior-aged residents.

Previously, the council installed a rubber circular path around the perimeter to aid mobility vehicles, walking, and running, as well as a step-free path from the car park entrance.

Martine Naughton, chair of TPC, said: “This is more than just new equipment; it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to accessibility.

“We are incredibly grateful to the National Lottery for this funding, which allows us to move closer to our goal of ensuring every child in our parish has the chance to play together.”

The new-look park has been unveiled ahead of Trull Parish hosting its bi-annual Party in the Park event on Saturday, July 11.
