SOMERSET is being warned to expect icy conditions – with snow in some places – after the Met Office issued a weather warning.
Forecasters said freeing temperatures could bring “icy surfaces leading to difficult travel conditions” across the south west and beyond, with the yellow warning in place from 5pm today (February 13) until 10am on Saturday.
The Met Office warned people to expect “some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”, with “icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths”.
A forecaster said: “A band of rain and sleet, with a little snow on hills, will clear southwards across England and Wales during Friday evening and overnight.
“As skies clear, temperatures will fall below freezing leading to a risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.”
A Met Office spokesperson added: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
The warning comes after Somerset and the south west has endured rainfall every day of 2026 so far, with the Levels and surrounding areas struggling to cope with high water levels.
