FLAGS are flying at half mast in Wells after the sudden passing of veteran representative ad former mayor, Tony Robbins.
Wells City Council and Somerset Council member Tony has passed away “unexpectedly”, with tributes being paid.
First elected to Wells City Council in 2007, Cllr Robbins held a number of roles, including serving as Mayor of Wells in 2010/11 and most recently as chair of the council’s Finance Committee.
“Tony was a well known, and highly-regarded figure within the city, as well as a colleague and friend to many and his loss is felt deeply,” a city council spokesperson said.
Flags at the Town Hall are flying at half mast today (February 9), the authority said, and will remain such until the day of Tony’s funeral, which has yet to be confirmed.
“Our thoughts are with Tony’s family and friends at this difficult time,” the spokesperson added.
The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani, said: “I know I speak for all councillors and staff of the city council in saying that the loss of Tony is significant, and felt deeply.
“Tony has served the community of Wells in so many ways, and the loss of his knowledge, expertise and willingness will be significantly felt.
“We all send our sincere condolences to his wide Sylvia and daughter Georgie.”
