Somerset holiday park wants to expand bar/restaurant facilities

A BAR and restaurant at a Somerset holiday park could be expanded, if plans are approved.

Planware Ltd, on behalf of Haven Leisure Ltd, has applied to Somerset Council for permission to extend the Mach and Barrel-branded facilities at Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Village, off South Esplanade.

“Haven has undertaken a review of its parks and is looking for opportunities to invest and enhance existing facilities,” the application said. “This includes its own range of bar/restaurants, known as Mash and Barrel.

“It is proposed that Burnham is an appropriate location for an expansion of the existing space and wider refurbishment that will allow improvement of existing facilities.”

The application outlines plans for “single storey extensions to customer and service areas”, “refurbishment of relevant external areas including erection of canopy” and “minor changes to existing elevations”.

A canopy would be installed on an expanded outdoor seating area, the application said, as well as the refurbishment of external areas.

“The predominant purpose for the proposed extension is to provide additional customer seating, as part of wider refurbishment and reconfiguration of the unit,” it said.

“The remainder of the external area will be refurbished, with additional canopy space installed to enable more opportunities for al-fresco dining as well as provide an attractive environment which looks out onto existing activity areas including outdoor pool.

“The internal area and space will be reconfigured to provide additional service space as well as a dedicated staff area, with the displaced customer seating to be replaced with the extension and terrace.”

The plans come as nearby Brean Theme Park confirmed it had entered liquidation, while Unity Holidays, which runs a resort in Burnham-on-Sea, has also applied to extend the static caravan provision on part of the current golf course.
