THE M5 is among many Somerset routes struggling due to flooding this morning after as Storm Chandra continues to yield heavy rain.
Two lanes of the southbound carriageway between junctions 25 (Taunton) and 26 (Wellington) have been closed, with traffic backing up, due to flooding, while an earlier crash on the northbound side between junctions 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and 21 (Weston-super-Mare) has been cleared.
Elsewhere, the A303 has been closed in both directions between the Southfields roundabout at Ilminster to the Chard turnoff, at Upottery.

The disruption comes as heavy rain continues to batter Somerset, with an amber weather warning in place until 9am today (January 27). A yellow warning remains in place until 10am, both for heavy rain.
“Rainfall totals are expected to reach 20mm-30mm widely, with 50mm-80mm likely across higher ground, especially Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons). With wet conditions prior to this period, the rain will fall onto saturated ground, accentuating flooding impacts in places. Strong southeasterly winds are also likely,” a forecaster said.
They said the rain was likely to cause “flooding and disruption” this morning.
Other updates on the roads include the A350 being closed both ways due to flooding, between Child Okeford turn off to The Street, and the A356 at Maiden Newton “impassable due to flooding between Frome Lane and the Wynford Eagle turn off”.
