SOMERSET is being warned to prepare for more rain – with up to 80mm falling on higher ground.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain which runs from 3pm today (January 26) until noon on Tuesday.
Forecasters said “outbreaks of heavy rain likely to bring some transport disruption and flooding in places”.
“Rainfall totals are expected to reach 20-30mm widely, with 50-80mm likely across higher ground, especially Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons),” the forecasters went on.
“With wet conditions prior to this period, the rain will fall onto saturated ground, accentuating flooding impacts in places.
“Strong south-easterly winds are also likely.”
Somerset has been battered by heavy rain and high winds in recent weeks, with the Levels already saturated.
People are encouraged to check if their property could be at risk of flooding and “consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit”, the Met Office added.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary,” they went on.
“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
