Plan for new dog walking field in Somerset town revealed

A NEW dog walking area could be created in a Somerset town, if plans are approved.

A planning application has been submitted to change the use of land at Redcliffe Street, Cheddar, into a 0.4-hectare walking area.

The scheme has been submitted by Salmon Planning Company on behalf of Sam Jones.

As part of the plans, two metre-high dog-proof fencing would be installed around the walking area – part of a larger 1.9-hectare site to “enclose and clearly delineate the dog walking area”.

The application went on: “Vehicular access would be taken from the existing entrance off Redcliffe Street, which is to be widened.

“A small parking area would be created a short distance inside the access, providing space for four vehicles.”

The plans said the site would be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, with appointments booked in 50-minute slots, with a 10-minute gap to avoid any crossover.

No external lighting is proposed, it said, although “new traditional orchard planting” would be carried out in the eastern part of the site, “along with additional hedgerow planting along the western boundary of the dog walking area and around the parking area”.
