Taunton flat badly damaged after fire starts in bedroom

A TAUNTON flat was damaged by fire which broke out on Thursday evening (December 4).

Firefighters from the town were sent to the scene, in Gladstone Street, at just after 4.20pm to reports of a fire in a bedroom.

Two crews attended, with the fire discovered on the thrid floor of the building.

By 7pm, the fire had been extinguished, using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet, a 10.5-metre ladder and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

“The room was 10% damaged by fire and 100% damaged by smoke,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

“The remainder of the flat was 25% damaged by smoke. The cause of the fire was recorded as accidental.”
