‘It’s pathetic’: Vandals cut out faces on banners advertising Absolutely Dragulous Wells show

VANDALS have targeted banners promoting a Somerset drag show – cutting out the faces of the stars.

The attacks have occurred on several banners advertising The Absolutely Dragulous Show, set to take place at Studio24 in Wells on Friday, December 19.

Posting to social media, one of the show’s founders, George Sullovan, hit out at those responsible, alongside an image of a vandalised banner on railings in Shepton Mallet.

“I honestly cannot believe I even have to write this, but here we are,” they said. “To whoever is going around Shepton Mallet cutting the faces out of The Absolutely Dragulous Show billboards and promo for our upcoming show at Studio24 in Wells: What exactly do you think you’re achieving?

“Drag artists exist to entertain, to bring people joy, to give them a night where they can forget everything heavy going on in their lives.

“We are comedians, singers, performers. We get on stage to make people laugh, sing, smile and feel connected for a few hours. That’s it. That’s the ‘big threat’.

“So seeing someone go out of their way to vandalise our promo, literally cutting our faces out, is beyond sad. It’s pathetic.

“Promo isn’t cheap. Those posters cost real money, real time, real effort. And to have someone destroy them for what? To feel powerful? To make a point no one asked for?

“The way things are going lately, with people throwing around words like ‘free speech’ while using it as an excuse to be cruel, hateful, or downright violent, it’s honestly heartbreaking.

“Drag has always been about joy, expression, community, and escape, not whatever twisted narrative people try to paint it as.

“If you don’t like drag, don’t come to the show. It’s that simple. But going out of your way to vandalise our work? It says a lot more about you than it ever will about us.

“We’re still going to turn up. We’re still going to perform. We’re still going to bring joy. And we’re still going to be absolutely dragulous.”

Tickets for The Absolutely Dragulous Show at Studio24 in Wells cost £20 and are available via studio24wells.com/events/the-absolutely-dragulous-show.
