CHARD Town Football Club is mourning the loss of stalwart supporter and committee member, Adrian Clifford.
Mr Clifford held a number of roles at the Somerset club over more than two decades, including as secretary, treasurer and managing the clubhouse bar.
He passed away this week after a short time in hospital, the club said.
“Most importantly, our immediate love and thoughts are only with his wife Ann and her family,” a statement said.
“Adrian served the club for over 25 years in a variety of different roles, but latterly was company secretary, club treasurer/general secretary, as well as managing the clubhouse bar.
“He never sought the limelight, but was the knowledge behind the scenes, holding the club together during recent difficult times.
“He will undoubtedly be sorely missed not only as a club official but a close friend to us all. Quite simply, if there were more people like Adrian, the world would be a better place.
“After a period of respect, the club will endeavour to find replacement volunteers to fill the important positions held by Adrian and continue to move the club forward.”
An under-18s match against Street FC was postponed out of respect.
A Somerset FA spokesperson added: “We are saddened to hear the tragic news regarding Adrian’s passing. Somerset FA would like to send our thoughts and condolence’s to Adrian’s friends, family, and all at Chard Town Football Club.”
