More delays to recycling collections in Somerset today: Here’s where

DELAYS to recycling collections in the Wells and North Mendip areas are continuing today (Wednesday, September 24).

Somerset Council said the problems came “due to a range of operational issues” and come after similar delays for residents on Tuesday (September 23).

On Wednesday, areas affected are in and around Frome, Norton St Philip, Rode and Radstock.

“If residents’ recycling has not been collected, they are asked leave boxes and bags out and crews will return the next day – there’s no need to report it,” a council spokesperson said.

“Crews will be working to try to make sure recycling is collected and will be working on Saturday if needed.”

Those missed on Tuesday in Wells, Westbury-sub-Mendip, Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Chilcompton, Priddy, Holcombe, Oakhill, Dulcote, Coleford and Draycott, will have their recycling collected today as crews make up the backlog.

If a collection is missed by more than 24 hours, residents should report it online via www.somerset.gov.uk/missed-collection.

The issue come after problems last month at neighbouring North Somerset Council, where collections were missed due to a shortage of drivers.

Don’t blame late pick ups on the crews they do a brilliant job when fully manned but maybe they haven’t got the full crew, I spoke with one crew member who would normally have 3 but was down to 2 crew members they are working flat out to try to pick up the backlog, not the best of jobs to have but somebody has to do it…so be patient
