Vehicle search in Shepton Mallet ends in three arrests and return of stolen clothes

A CHECK of a suspect car in Shepton Mallet led to three arrests – and clothes worth around £1,000 being returned to a shop.

On Sunday (September 21), Avon & Somerset Police officers from the Mendip Neighbourhood Team were made aware of a suspicious vehicle in the centre of Shepton Mallet “believed to be involved in recent thefts”, a spokesperson said.

“While searching for the vehicle, two men carrying items of clothing ran from officers, who gave chase,” they went on.

“After detaining one male, the second was quickly located hiding inside a nearby garage along with a female.”

They said all three people were arrested, one male recalled to prison, a male further arrested for four outstanding thefts and remanded to court, all property recovered and returned to the store, with a value of nearly £1,000, and one vehicle removed from the road.
