Busy North Somerset route to close for 15 nights for ‘essential’ repair work

‘ESSENTIAL’ work to repair a busy route near the M5 in Somerset will get underway next week.

The scheme, at The Portbury Hundred, near Portishead, will begin on Monday (September 29).

Work will be carried out over 15 nights, stretching from the Sheepway roundabout to junction 19 of the M5 roundabout and will include carriageway resurfacing, repairing and replacing damaged ironworks, upgrading highway drainage, refreshing road markings and signage, and clearing overgrown vegetation.

North Somerset Council said the project is “vital to maintain the road and improve safety”.

“The work will be completed along the entire length of the Portbury Hundred between 9pm and 5am each day,” a spokesperson said.

“A road closure will be in place and traffic marshalls will help with access arrangements for residents.

“A fully signposted diversion will be in place while the road is closed.”

Cllr Hannah Young, cabinet member for roads, added: “These works are an investment in the future of our road network, ensuring safer journeys and a more resilient road infrastructure for North Somerset.

“Thank you for your patience while the scheme is completed.”
