Marine Lake in Weston closed this week to allow high tides to refill it

MARINE Lake in Weston-Super-Mare is closed until Thursday (September 11) – to allow high tides to refill it.

It is due to re-open at 9am that day after it is expected the high tides will overtop the causeway and refill the lake.

“We’re draining the lake to enable our seafront rangers to carry out regular maintenance on the two sluice gates,” a North Somerset Council spokesperson said.

“The gates require frequent checks to make sure that they are operating effectively.

“No dredging will be taking place while the lake is temporarily closed, and we don’t currently have further dredging planned.”

They said the closure, the first since July, was part of a series planned for maintenance.
