FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze in a Minehead back garden which was visible for miles around.
The blaze, at a property on North Hill, was reported at around 2.20pm on Monday (August 25), with crews from across Somerset and Devon sent to the scene to stop it spreading to nearby properties, grass and woodland.
Fire engines from Minehead, Ilfracombe, Braunton, Lynton, Totnes, Bampton, Tiverton, Witheridge, Clyst St George, Taunton, Bridgwater, Dulverton, Nether Stowey, Porlock, Wellington, Williton and Wiveliscombe attended.
A Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the fire was in “a back garden at North Hill, Minehead, and grass and woodland on a steep incline behind”.
“The flames were exacerbated by strong winds,” they went on. “We sent seven pumping appliances plus special appliances and initially ensured that no buildings became involved in the fire.
“Crews used water jets, beaters and portable water packs to extinguish the fire.”
Crews remained in place throughout the day to ensure there were no hot spots.
