REPORTS of smoke coming from a derelict building in Yeovil prompted a fire callout this morning (August 5).
Two crews – from Yeovil and Crewkerne – were initially sent to an address in the town centre at just after 8am.
“Upon arrival, the incident commander requested a third fire engine be mobilised,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
They said four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet, one triple extension ladder, one thermal image camera, small tools and a positive pressure ventilation fan were used to put the fire out.
“As a result of the fire the building was 10% damaged by fire and 100% damaged by smoke,” they added. “The cause is believed to be accidental.”
