A MAN sadly died after a crash near Bridgwater yesterday afternoon (July 31).

Police said the incident, involving a car and a lorry, occurred on the A39 near Chilton Polden.

“Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the driver of the car, a man aged in his 80s, sadly died at the scene,” an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

“His family have been updated and our thoughts are with them. They are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.”

The A39 was closed between the junctions with Ford Lane and Holywell Road as emergency services and crash investigators were on the scene.
