RECYCLING workers from Somerset took to the football pitch recently to raise money for charity.
On July 12, teams from SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK took part in a charity football match – raising more than £900 for the firm’s charity partners, Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation.
It was the fourth annual charity match, which feature SUEZ depots from across the south west battling it out to become the 2025 tournament winners.
The tournament took place at St Martins AFC in Exminster, who kindly offered their pitches for the event.
Teams included SUEZ staff from East Devon, Thorverton Road, Williton, Central Somerset, Devon and Cornwall HWRC, and Weston-super-Mare.

Craig Hooper, Williton depot manager at SUEZ, said: “It was great to be able to organise this year’s event, the money we raise for charity will help to support them in continuing to do the amazing work they do everyday.”
“It is always a great pleasure to take part in these events,” said Layton Hucker, regional wellbeing and inclusion officer at SUEZ. “Having the opportunity to be outside, despite this year’s hot weather, taking part in sports and being with your work colleagues in a fun environment, is so important for people’s wellbeing.
“We hope that the tournament continues for many years to come.”
SUEZ’s Somerset contract team has organised an annual football match since 2021, raising more than £2,500 for charity.
The depot at Thorverton Road has raised more than £700 alone in sponsorships over the two years they have taken part.
Dominic Cullip, senior site manager, said: “I am really proud of my team for coming together and raising a significant amount of money for our charities. Thanks to all our family and friends for sponsoring us.
“The football tournament is a great way to bond with our colleagues in a friendly, if not slightly competitive, environment.”
The tournament was won by the team from Weston-Super-Mare, with Williton the runners-up.
